Ivan-David Kadaner

I compose places — a niche, a frame, a room — through what I place inside them.

Things, fragments, traces, and intervals enter into relation through position, concealment, rhythm, and proximity. I do not produce images. I construct conditions under which an event may or may not occur.

A work develops as a syntax of exposure and withdrawal, pressure and pause, presence and remainder. Scale may shift from a hand-held object to a space the body moves through, but the operation remains the same.

Found objects carry marks of decay. Sound decays. Impermanence is not the enemy of form. It is what form is made of.

The medium may change — assemblage, sound, film — but the operation does not.

The work stays. Time surfaces there.
